Sailcloth wind breaks
Be prepared to stand out from the masses with our fabulous vintage sailcloth windbreak. An essential item for those in search of the classic British beach holiday experience and updated by us for modern living.
We were the first company to make windbreaks from old sails, way back in 2008. Since then the concept has been copied but we're confident that ours are not only the original but also the best. Choose a Reefer windbreak and you are purchasing a family heirloom that future generations will treasure.
Every recycled sailcloth windbreak we make is completely unique. We select only the softest sails we can find, each with its own character and colour. You'll always find original seam details in the panels and often the original sailmaker's logo, class logo or sail number, batten pockets, reefing lines and reinforcement patches. Beware of copies that are often made from new flimsy white cloth which isn't even real sailcloth!
Once the edge bound panels are assembled we add our signature reefing lines to secure the rolled up windbreak and a carry handle carefully positioned for perfect balance. 'Tell tale' sail trim streamers add yet more authentic detail, choose from a range of colours.
The windbreakcan be fitted with both an iPod and book pocket if desired. Both are positioned above sand and sea level, the iPod pocket is large enough for car keys or change for ice creams too, the book pocket is a generous size, designed to take a standard size A4 magazine. Your copy of 'Coast' will be quite safe .
Another useful addition is an anodised aluminium beer bottle opener attached to the carry handle. Supplied when you specify pockets.
The generous length softwood poles feature metal reinforcing collars on their heads and cones on the spike so they won't split with enthusiastic mallet work. Each pole is attached to the sailcloth with our unique webbing hangers, secured with a rust proof stainless steel screw through a nickel grommet fitted to the webbing. This allows the windbreak panel to slide on pole when required sitting at ground level even when the poles have to be driven a long way into soft sand. They also stop the poles sliding out in transit. As ever, our usual attention to detail.
We've commissioned our own mallet from a local manufacturer for use with the windbreak which is strongly recommended to do our breaker justice. The octagonal head can be knocked off the shaft with a simple tap of the shaft on the ground to reduce bulk if required. An optional extra which we recommend for use on the campsite too, suppied with a protective carry & storage bag.
If you want more personalising, a special colour sailcloth or have particular idea in mind give us a call to discuss, we make many one off designs as you'll see below.
